It commonly occurs in chromium-rich ultramafic rocks and associated mineral deposits. The Selukwe district, now known as Shurugwi, is situated along Zimbabwe's Great Dyke, a major layered igneous intrusion renowned for its extensive chromite deposits. This vintage-labeled specimen represents an important mineral from one of southern Africa's historically significant chromium-producing regions.
