Collection: Agate

Agate is a banded form of chalcedony, a microcrystalline variety of quartz (SiO₂). It forms when silica-rich groundwater fills cavities inside ancient volcanic rock, depositing layer after layer over thousands to millions of years. These slow, rhythmic deposits create agate’s signature concentric bands, often resembling topographic lines or fortification walls.

Each band records a change in mineral content or temperature during formation, giving agate its incredible range of colors—soft grays, warm browns, deep reds, icy blues, and vibrant multicolor patterns. Many specimens also contain botryoidal formations or tiny drusy quartz crystals sparkling in open pockets.

With a Mohs hardness of 6.5–7, agate is durable, stable, and excellent for carvings, jewelry, display pieces, and home décor. It is found worldwide, with major deposits in Brazil, Uruguay, Madagascar, Mexico, Botswana, India, and the United States.

Agate’s distinct banding and natural variation ensure that every piece is completely one-of-a-kind, formed through a combination of volcanic activity, water movement, and geologic time.
