Fluorite
Greenlaws Mine, Daddry Shield, Weardale, County Durham, England
Dimensions: 16.0 × 9.0 × 6.0 cm
Provenance: Greenlaws Mine locality provided with specimen
An impressive self-standing large cabinet specimen of purple Fluorite from Greenlaws Mine, featuring a dense arrangement of sharply defined, intergrown cubic crystals in beautiful shades of lavender, smoky violet, and soft plum. Many crystals display remarkable transparency, delicate internal zoning, and finely developed growth lines, while their reflective faces create an attractive sparkle across the specimen.
The most distinctive feature is a prominent, raised mineralized ridge extending across the plate, extensively encrusted with successive generations of Fluorite. Larger, well-formed cubes project outward from the ridge among smaller crystals, creating an intricate, three-dimensional formation with considerable depth and twinning. The combination of contrasting crystal sizes, overlapping growth patterns, and subtle color variations makes this specimen especially engaging under close examination.
Greenlaws Mine, situated in England's historic Weardale mining district, is internationally celebrated for its collectible Fluorite specimens. The locality is particularly renowned for distinctive purple coloration, complex crystal growth, and specimens that frequently exhibit remarkable fluorescence.
