A translucent, colorless to pale champagne cerussite crystal displaying an elongated prismatic habit with a brilliant, glassy to adamantine luster. The crystal exhibits delicate parallel growth striations, subtle internal veils, and sharply reflective faces. Distinctive angular intergrowths interrupt its otherwise slender form, while scattered dark mineral inclusions and reddish-brown iron oxide deposits provide contrast against the nearly transparent crystal.
Cerussite, PbCO₃, is a lead carbonate mineral that forms through the oxidation of primary lead-bearing minerals, particularly galena. Known for its exceptionally high refractive index, brilliant luster, and distinctive crystal habits, cerussite frequently develops complex twinned crystals and elongated, prismatic forms. The historic Mammoth–St. Anthony Mine in Arizona's Tiger mining district is celebrated for its remarkable suite of secondary lead minerals.
