Arsenopyrite on Sphalerite with Quartz Parral, Chihuahua, Mexico Dimensions: 4.7 × 2.8 × 2.5 cm Provenance: Original vintage collection label, catalog no. 509, included with specimen. The original label identifies the locality as Parral, Chihuahua, Mexico.
An attractive metallic mineral specimen featuring prominent steel-gray arsenopyrite crystals resting on a dark sphalerite-rich matrix. The arsenopyrite displays sharply angular, blocky crystal forms with a subdued silver-gray metallic luster, distinct geometric faces, and fine surface textures. Smaller metallic crystals are scattered throughout the specimen, contrasting with a bright white to translucent crystalline matrix. Slender, transparent to milky quartz crystals emerge between the metallic minerals, adding texture and visual contrast to the arrangement.
Arsenopyrite is an iron arsenic sulfide mineral commonly found in hydrothermal ore deposits alongside sulfide minerals such as sphalerite, galena, and pyrite. The Parral mining district of Chihuahua, Mexico, has a long history of silver and base-metal mining and is known for complex mineral associations formed through hydrothermal activity. This vintage-labeled specimen illustrates the contrasting crystal habits and textures characteristic of these mineral-rich deposits.
