Near Bancroft, Hastings County, Ontario, Canada
Dimensions: 6.5 × 4.4 × 3.9 cm
Provenance: Original vintage collection label, catalog no. 203, included with specimen.
A substantial specimen of rough Sodalite displaying beautiful shades of royal blue, denim blue, and deep indigo. The richly colored mineral is interspersed with pale gray and white areas, creating a striking natural contrast. Irregular fracture surfaces reveal a mixture of deeper blue zones and lighter, mottled textures, while thin rusty-orange mineral staining traces several fractures throughout the specimen.
Sodalite is a sodium aluminum silicate mineral belonging to the feldspathoid group, prized for its distinctive blue coloration. The Bancroft region of Ontario is renowned for its mineral-rich alkaline rock formations and diverse mineral occurrences, including Sodalite. This specimen is an attractive example of Canadian Sodalite and retains its original vintage collection label.
