An unusual Datolite specimen with a rounded, botryoidal exterior composed of tightly clustered cream to beige nodules. One cut and polished face reveals a translucent gray-beige interior filled with contrasting cream-colored inclusions and branching, plume-like patterns. Fine dark dendritic markings occur around portions of the perimeter, adding further visual interest to the polished surface.
Datolite is a calcium boron silicate well known from Michigan's Keweenaw Peninsula, where it occurs within the region's copper-bearing volcanic rocks. Michigan Datolite is particularly collectible for its wide range of colors, inclusions, and patterns, and nodular material is frequently cut or polished to reveal its internal structure.
