Huanzala Mine, Huallanca District, Bolognesi Province, Ancash, Peru
4.5 × 4.0 × 3.0 cm
Brilliant metallic Galena forms a dense cluster of highly lustrous, strongly modified crystals with broad reflective faces and complex stepped growth. Abundant golden-brassy Pyrite occurs throughout and beneath the Galena, providing a striking contrast between the two metallic minerals.
Galena is a lead sulfide mineral and the principal ore of lead. The Huanzala Mine in Peru is renowned among collectors for producing exceptionally lustrous Galena specimens, frequently associated with bright Pyrite and other sulfide minerals.
