Clinozoisite in Quartz Álamos, Álamos Municipality, Sonora, Mexico Dimensions: 3.6 × 4.0 × 2.7 cm Provenance: Original vintage collection label, catalog no. 228, included with specimen. Original identification recorded as Clinozoisite in Quartz.
An attractive and colorful specimen displaying a striking combination of rose-pink, pistachio-green, and translucent gray crystalline material. The surface features abundant slender, elongated greenish-yellow crystals arranged in radiating sprays and intergrown clusters, contrasting beautifully with the fine-grained pink mineralization. Gray to milky-white quartz forms prominent sections of the matrix, with angular fractured surfaces and areas of subtle translucency. The contrasting colors and varied crystal textures give this specimen considerable visual interest.
Clinozoisite is a calcium aluminum silicate mineral belonging to the epidote group, commonly forming in metamorphic rocks and hydrothermally altered geological environments. It is closely related to Epidote but typically contains less iron, resulting in lighter green, yellowish, or nearly colorless varieties. The Álamos region of Sonora, Mexico, has a long history of mineral exploration and complex geological activity. This vintage-labeled specimen offers an appealing example of an epidote-group mineral association with quartz from northwestern Mexico.
