A slender asbestos specimen composed of tightly parallel, strongly fibrous mineral growth with olive-green to golden-brown coloration and a silky, reflective luster. Numerous fine fibers run lengthwise through the specimen, with areas separating into delicate hair-like strands. Based on its darker coloration, straight longitudinal fibers, and overall habit, the material appears more consistent with an amphibole-group asbestos mineral than with typical Chrysotile, though the specific mineral species has not been confirmed.
“Asbestos” is a historical and commercial term applied to several naturally occurring fibrous silicate minerals rather than a single mineral species. Amphibole minerals capable of developing an asbestiform habit include Actinolite, Tremolite, Anthophyllite, Riebeckite, and Grunerite; definitive identification requires mineralogical analysis.
