White to creamy-white massive Gypsum forms a compact specimen with a softly crystalline, satiny texture and subtle pearly luster. Fine interlocking crystals are visible across the surface, giving the otherwise massive material a delicate sparkle.
Gypsum is a hydrated calcium sulfate mineral commonly formed in evaporite deposits as mineral-rich waters evaporate. Oklahoma contains extensive Permian-age gypsum deposits, particularly across the western portion of the state.
