Colorless to pale gray Petalite forms a translucent crystalline mass with broad, strongly developed cleavage surfaces and a vitreous to softly pearly luster. The overlapping cleavage planes create a layered, glassy appearance, with minor cream to tan mineral staining across portions of the specimen.
Petalite is a lithium aluminum silicate characteristic of lithium-rich pegmatites. Varuträsk is a classic Swedish rare-element pegmatite locality, notable for its exceptionally diverse lithium-caesium-tantalum mineralization and abundant Petalite, Spodumene, Lepidolite, and Pollucite.
