Diadochite
San Benito County, California
Dimensions: 5.5 x 2.2 cm contained in original vial
Old-stock systematic specimen of diadochite, preserved as numerous loose granular to nodular fragments in its original collection vial. The material ranges from earthy ochre and tan to deep reddish-brown, with some pieces showing darker, slightly resinous-looking surfaces against the more friable matrix.
Diadochite is an uncommon hydrated iron phosphate-sulfate mineral, typically occurring as earthy, crusty, or amorphous-looking material rather than the showy crystals associated with more familiar collector minerals.
