Wagnerite (“Kjerulfine”)- Kjerulfine Mine, Havredal, Bamble, Telemark, Norway

Wagnerite (“Kjerulfine”)
Kjerulfine Mine, Havredal, Bamble, Telemark, Norway
Dimensions: 3.2 × 2.7 × 1.1 cm
Provenance: Older collection specimen; original catalog label No. 271 identifies the specimen as “Wagnerite var. Kjerulfine” from Havredal, Norway.

Pale honey-yellow Wagnerite occurs as crystalline masses and blocky grains within a contrasting matrix of silvery-gray mica and white phosphate material. The Wagnerite displays a vitreous to pearly luster, with warm golden coloration standing out against the reflective matrix.

This historic Norwegian material was formerly known as Kjerulfine, a name introduced in the 19th century when it was believed to represent a distinct mineral species. Later study established Kjerulfine as Wagnerite, a magnesium phosphate-fluoride mineral, and the name is now retained primarily for its historical significance. The Kjerulfine Mine at Havredal was specifically known for its yellow Wagnerite and gave this historic material an important place in early Norwegian mineralogy.
