Dark greenish-black to nearly black Hornblende forms a dense schistose mass composed of countless fine, elongated and bladed crystals. The strongly aligned crystals give the specimen a distinctly foliated texture and a sparkling vitreous to submetallic luster across the surface.
Hornblende is a group of amphibole minerals commonly occurring in metamorphic rocks. Hornblende-rich schist develops under metamorphic conditions that produce the characteristic alignment of elongated amphibole crystals seen throughout this specimen.
