Botryoidal Prehnite with Epidote
Bosso Mine, Bendoukou, Kayes Region, Mali
Dimensions: 5.6 × 3.2 × 2.4 cm
An unusual, sculptural specimen of botryoidal Prehnite featuring an elongated arrangement of rounded, interconnected formations. The Prehnite displays muted sage-green and gray-green coloration beneath a delicate, frosted surface, with subtle cream and tan accents. Its distinctive growth pattern creates a series of overlapping, bulbous forms, with fine radial crystal textures visible along several edges. Small, dark olive-green Epidote crystals emerge from portions of the specimen, providing contrast against the softly rounded Prehnite.
Prehnite is a calcium aluminum silicate mineral that commonly forms rounded, botryoidal aggregates composed of radiating crystals. It frequently occurs alongside Epidote in hydrothermal environments, producing mineral associations with contrasting crystal habits and textures. Specimens from Mali are especially recognized for their distinctive botryoidal Prehnite formations, which range from translucent green spheres to intricate, sculptural aggregates.
