Botryoidal Prehnite with Epidote
Bosso Mine, Bendoukou, Kayes Region, Mali
Dimensions: 5.4 × 3.3 × 2.8 cm
A sculptural specimen of botryoidal Prehnite featuring an elegant, vertically arranged cluster of rounded formations in soft sage-green, silvery gray-green, and creamy white. The overlapping aggregates display intricate radial crystal growth, creating delicate, feather-like textures and a subtle silky luster across their surfaces. Several dark olive-green Epidote crystals emerge between the Prehnite formations, including a prominent, deeply striated prismatic crystal that provides a striking contrast to the softly rounded shapes. Areas of translucent crystalline growth reveal the specimen's layered internal structure.
Prehnite is a calcium aluminum silicate mineral that commonly develops rounded, botryoidal aggregates composed of radiating crystals. It frequently occurs alongside Epidote in hydrothermal environments, producing attractive associations of contrasting crystal habits. The Bendoukou area of Mali is particularly recognized for these distinctive combinations, where sculptural Prehnite formations are accompanied by dark green Epidote crystals.
