Botryoidal Prehnite with Epidote
Bosso Mine, Bendoukou, Kayes Region, Mali
Dimensions: 3.9 × 3.9 × 3.4 cm
An attractive, naturally sculptural specimen of botryoidal Prehnite featuring a cluster of exceptionally rounded, nearly spherical formations. The specimen displays soft sage-green and silvery gray-green coloration beneath a delicate, frosted surface, with subtle cream and golden-tan accents. Its distinctive arrangement includes a prominent upper sphere resting above several interconnected rounded aggregates, creating an appealing, balanced silhouette. Fine radial crystal textures are visible across the surfaces, while small areas of dark green mineralization provide subtle contrast between the formations.
Prehnite is a calcium aluminum silicate mineral that forms in a variety of crystal habits, including the rounded, grape-like aggregates known as botryoidal growth. These formations consist of numerous tiny crystals growing outward from a common center. Mali is particularly well known for its distinctive Prehnite specimens, often featuring sculptural rounded formations and associations with Epidote.
