Dark brownish-black to black Hedenbergite forms dense radiating and bladed crystalline aggregates with a silky to submetallic luster. Golden-brown surface alteration highlights the individual crystal forms and creates strong contrast across the specimen, with small areas of translucent associated mineralization visible along the upper surface.
Hedenbergite is an iron-rich member of the pyroxene group and commonly occurs in iron-rich skarn deposits formed through contact metamorphism. The radiating crystal habit and dark coloration are characteristic of well-developed Hedenbergite specimens.
