A natural plate of vermiculite, displaying the mineral's characteristic micaceous, layered structure. Broad overlapping sheets form a roughly rounded mass, with a warm palette of champagne-gold, bronze, olive-gray, and silvery tan. Along the edges, the individual laminae separate into thin, slightly curled layers.
The handwritten specimen label reads “Vermiculite — No. Car.”, preserving North Carolina provenance. Vermiculite is historically well documented from the state, particularly the western Blue Ridge region.
