Garnierite
Riddle Mine, Riddle, Riddle Mining District, Douglas County, Oregon, USA
Dimensions: 4.1 × 2.5 × 1.4 cm
Collector's Note: Garnierite isn't a single IMA-approved mineral species; at Riddle it's a nickel-rich silicate mixture, and published work found the material to be largely poorly crystalline serpentine-group material with quartz.
A classic Oregon Garnierite specimen featuring a broad surface of soft mint to pale apple-green nickel-rich silicate material covered by striking black dendritic growths. The finely branching dendrites create excellent contrast against the green groundmass, while areas of tan-brown host rock remain around the margins. An especially attractive example of this historic nickel-ore material from the Riddle Mining District.
