The specimen displays a wonderful mottled texture, with translucent to waxy areas of greenish-yellow serpentine interrupted by dark oxide-rich zones.
The original vintage label identifies the specimen as “Serpentine & Ilmenite — Buskerud, Norway,” Cat. No. 415. This combination is characteristic of the historic serpentine occurrences around Snarum in Modum, Buskerud, an area known for yellow-green serpentine-group minerals associated with iron-titanium oxides.
