Agate is a banded variety of Chalcedony, a microcrystalline form of Quartz that develops through successive deposits of silica-rich fluids within cavities in volcanic and other host rocks. Variations in mineral impurities and growth conditions produce the intricate patterns and colors characteristic of banded Agate.
