Virgin Valley, Humboldt County, Nevada, USA
Dimensions: 3.7 × 3.7 × 2.5 cm
Provenance: Original vintage collection label, catalog no. 133a, included with specimen.
A dark, massive Hollandite specimen displaying a charcoal-black to steel-gray coloration with subtle brownish undertones and a fine-grained, granular texture. Its irregular surfaces exhibit a subdued metallic to earthy luster, with scattered reflective mineral grains producing a delicate sparkle under direct illumination. The specimen features angular, naturally fractured edges and a compact, substantial form.
Hollandite is a barium manganese oxide mineral belonging to the hollandite group, recognized for its complex tunnel-like crystal structure. It commonly occurs in manganese-rich geological environments and is an interesting example of the mineralogical diversity associated with manganese oxide deposits. This vintage-labeled specimen originates from Virgin Valley in northern Nevada, a region particularly well known for its opal deposits and varied volcanic geology.
