Dimensions: 2.7 × 2.6 × 1.9 cm
Provenance: Original vintage collection label, catalog no. 128, included with specimen.
A substantial, dark iron-black Ilmenite specimen displaying a massive, irregular formation with a distinctive angular profile. Its surfaces exhibit a fine granular texture with scattered reflective areas, subtle gray-green undertones, and occasional golden-brown mineral staining. The specimen features prominent ridges, uneven fracture surfaces, and a slightly metallic to submetallic luster that highlights its dense, iron-rich character.
Ilmenite is an iron titanium oxide mineral (FeTiO₃) and one of the principal natural sources of titanium. It commonly occurs in igneous and metamorphic rocks, particularly in mineral assemblages associated with iron- and titanium-rich geological environments. Sannidal, within Kragerø Municipality in southern Norway, belongs to a region recognized for its varied mineral occurrences and longstanding mineralogical interest. This vintage-labeled specimen offers a classic example of massive Ilmenite from a historic Norwegian collecting locality.
