An attractive combination specimen featuring a rich coating of blue-green to deep teal Rosasite developed as velvety botryoidal aggregates across a dark iron-rich matrix. Abundant colorless to slightly smoky, highly lustrous Calcite crystals rise above the Rosasite, creating excellent contrast between the sparkling transparent crystals and rounded turquoise-blue mineralization. Small areas of warm orange-brown iron oxides remain exposed around the margins.
Rosasite is a copper-zinc carbonate mineral that commonly forms in the oxidized zones of copper-zinc deposits. The Ojuela Mine at Mapimí is a classic locality for Rosasite, particularly vivid blue-green botryoidal material associated with glassy Calcite on limonitic matrix—a combination very consistent with this specimen.
