Creedite (Cobaltian Variety) Santa Eulalia Mining District, Aquiles Serdán Municipality, Chihuahua, Mexico Dimensions: 5.1 × 3.8 × 2.9 cm Provenance: Original collection label identifying the specimen as cobaltian creedite from Santa Eulalia, Chihuahua, Mexico, included with specimen.
A Creedite specimen featuring delicate clusters of elongated, translucent crystals nestled within cavities of a richly textured, iron-stained matrix. The crystals display subtle lavender, smoky pink, and champagne tones, with reflective faces and finely striated surfaces. Their slender, radiating formations contrast beautifully against the surrounding dark gray to nearly black botryoidal mineralization. Vibrant reddish-orange iron oxides accentuate the specimen's rugged, sculptural appearance, while several exposed crystal groups provide attractive points of interest throughout the matrix.
Creedite is a relatively uncommon calcium aluminum sulfate fluoride mineral that forms in the oxidized zones of certain mineral deposits. The historic Santa Eulalia Mining District of Chihuahua, Mexico, is internationally recognized for its exceptional Creedite specimens, particularly those displaying delicate violet crystals associated with iron-rich minerals.
