Native Copper
Nacozari, Sonora, Mexico
Dimensions: 6.3 x 4.5 x 2.5 cm
A striking specimen of Native Copper from Nacozari, Sonora, Mexico, featuring a dense, highly textured surface of intergrown copper crystals. This specimen's warm copper-bronze metallic color highlights areas of deep brown to nearly black natural patina, and beautifully emphasizes the individual crystal forms and three-dimensional structure.
Native copper crystallizes in the isometric (cubic) crystal system, although it frequently develops complex growth habits rather than simple isolated cubes. This specimen exhibits a particularly attractive skeletal to dendritic crystalline habit, with numerous angular copper crystals intergrown into irregular branching, knobby and locally open structures across the specimen.
Nacozari is part of one of northern Mexico's historically important copper-producing regions. The combination of distinctive crystalline growth, substantial natural patina and documented vintage locality makes this an excellent example of native copper from Sonora.
