Ferrimolybdite- Big Cottonwood Canyon, Salt Lake County, Utah, USA

Ferrimolybdite
Big Cottonwood Canyon, Salt Lake County, Utah, USA
Dimensions: 3.4 × 2.6 × 0.9 cm
Provenance: Older collection specimen; original catalog label No. 325 included.

Yellow to golden-yellow Ferrimolybdite occurs abundantly as earthy to finely crystalline coatings across a contrasting gray and translucent matrix. Scattered metallic gray mineralization remains visible throughout, while the richly developed yellow coatings highlight fractures and crystal surfaces across the specimen.

Ferrimolybdite is a secondary iron molybdate mineral that typically forms through the oxidation and alteration of molybdenum-bearing minerals such as Molybdenite. Its characteristic yellow coloration makes it a distinctive secondary mineral in oxidized molybdenum deposits.
