Parahopeite
Northern Rhodesia (present-day Zambia)
Dimensions: 2.8 × 2.8 × 2.4 cm
Provenance: Older collection specimen; original catalog label No. 274 included.
Colorless to milky-white Parahopeite forms lustrous crystalline aggregates across a contrasting reddish-brown, iron-rich matrix. The crystals occur as tightly intergrown bladed and radiating forms with a bright vitreous to pearly luster, creating a striking contrast against the darker matrix.
Parahopeite is a rare hydrated zinc phosphate mineral closely related to Hopeite. It is best known from the historic zinc deposits of what was formerly Northern Rhodesia, now Zambia.
