Located in Carthage, Tennessee, the Elmwood Mine, originally established as a zinc mine in 1969, went through a period of closure and later reopened in 2010. Throughout its history, the mine has produced a wealth of remarkable specimens, including fluorite, calcite, barite, and galena. Initially, miners were allowed to collect specimens, leading to an abundance of these treasures. However, the new mine ownership has implemented strict regulations prohibiting specimen collection. The current owners have gone to great lengths to prevent such activities, employing methods like blasting crystal pockets or filling them with slurry.
