Fluorite Greenlaws Mine, Weardale, County Durham, England Dimensions: 5.7 x 4.0 x 3.7 cm
This Fluorite displays subtle shades of smoky lavender, silvery gray, and pale purple, with variations in color and transparency creating considerable depth throughout the specimen. Larger cubes rise prominently from the cluster while numerous smaller crystals fill the spaces between them, producing an exceptionally rich, three-dimensional crystal surface. Many of the cubes are translucent to locally transparent, revealing internal zoning, veils, and growth features beneath their lustrous faces.
Greenlaws Mine is one of the notable Fluorite localities of the Northern Pennine Orefield and is particularly known among collectors for its purple cubic Fluorite. This specimen is an especially attractive example, combining strong cubic definition, abundant crystallization, and the subdued purple-gray coloration characteristic of material from the locality.
