Fluorite- Midnight Oil Pocket, Diana Maria Mine, Frosterley, Weardale, Co. Durham, England, sku 495
A wonderful small cabinet specimen of the Midnight Oil Pocket. This specimen is a beautiful soft teal green and pops with midnight blues and features fluorite on both sides. It self stands as well.
This specimen measures: 5 cm x 3.2 cm x 2.5 cm
As taken from UKMV: "A small pocket discovered in January 2024, Midnight Oil – named in reference to the ethereal, oily midnight teal-blue colour displayed by some of the Fluorite crystals – lies in the flats north of the Sutcliffe Vein near the Milky Way pocket.
At least three very different colours of Fluorite were found in this pocket, including wine-yellow, teal-green, and teal-blue, with larger crystals displaying excellent glassy faces, fine transparency, and remarkable internal reflections. Some show stunning zonation between colours, particularly yellow with teal rims. Vertical zonation of colour was apparent within this cavity.
Many of the smaller Fluorite crystals display internal frosting on the central parts of their cubic faces but still possess exceptional gemminess in the corners."
