Tri-State District association specimen featuring translucent waxy calcite crystals on lustrous galena (with several "fortification-style" octahedral modifications) and sphalerite from Cherokee County, Kansas. A prominent cubic galena crystal displaying bright metallic luster serves as the focal point of the specimen, while a sculptural grouping of pale honey-colored calcite crystals projects dramatically from the matrix.
The combination of crystal form, luster, and contrasting color is representative of the celebrated lead-zinc deposits of the historic Tri-State Mining District, one of North America's most important mineral-producing regions. This specimen displays all three species in a highly aesthetic display, making it highly desirable for any collector of this famed locality.
This specimen carries exceptional provenance, originating from Ward's Natural Science Establishment of Rochester, New York, one of the most influential suppliers of scientific and mineral specimens in the United States, and later residing in the collection of Ray Berry, longtime mineral collector, Colorado claim owner, and active member of the Colorado Springs Mineralogical Society.
