Luning, Mineral County, Nevada, USA
Dimensions: 3.2 × 2.8 × 2.7 cm
Provenance: Original vintage collection label, catalog no. 147, included with specimen.
An unusual Brucite specimen displaying delicate ivory-white to pale cream coloration with subtle champagne and beige undertones. The specimen features an irregular, sculptural formation composed of tightly intergrown, platy to finely layered crystalline material. Its textured surfaces exhibit a soft pearly to silky luster, with numerous small reflective faces that catch the light. Distinctive stepped growth patterns, translucent edges, and scattered earthy inclusions contribute to its intricate appearance.
Brucite is a magnesium hydroxide mineral with the chemical formula Mg(OH)₂, commonly formed through the alteration of magnesium-rich rocks and in certain metamorphic environments. It is recognized for its characteristic layered crystal structure, perfect basal cleavage, and pearly luster. Nevada has numerous mineral occurrences associated with complex geological processes, including magnesium-rich alteration and metamorphism. This vintage-labeled example from Luning offers an attractive representation of Brucite's distinctive crystalline textures and subtle natural coloration.
