Epidote
Michigan, USA
Dimensions: 3.5 × 3.0 × 3.5 cm
Provenance: Original vintage collection label, catalog no. 223, included with specimen.
An attractive Epidote specimen featuring numerous cavities lined with sparkling olive-green to yellowish-green crystals. The crystals form delicate, tightly clustered aggregates within the openings of a dark gray, fine-grained matrix. Scattered pockets of green crystallization extend across multiple surfaces, creating an intriguing contrast between the subdued host rock and the lustrous mineral growth.
Epidote is a calcium aluminum iron silicate mineral commonly found in metamorphic rocks and hydrothermally altered environments. Its characteristic green coloration and distinctive crystal formations make it a recognizable member of many classic mineral collections. Michigan has a rich history of mineral collecting, particularly in areas associated with ancient volcanic rocks and copper-bearing formations.
