Labradorite is a member of the plagioclase feldspar group and is especially prized for the optical phenomenon known as labradorescence. This remarkable effect occurs as light interacts with microscopic internal structures within the feldspar, causing brilliant colors to appear from an otherwise dark gray stone. The colors and intensity of the flash change depending on the viewing and lighting angle.
