A chunky Natrolite specimen consisting of pale gray-white to translucent crystalline material with a vitreous to slightly pearly luster. Broad prismatic and cleavage surfaces are visible throughout, with fine longitudinal textures and scattered golden-brown iron staining. A darker gray-green band along one side provides additional contrast.
Natrolite is a hydrated sodium aluminosilicate belonging to the zeolite group. Although it frequently forms slender needles and radiating sprays, Natrolite can also occur as much more massive or stout prismatic material. At Clear Creek, Natrolite occurs in the unusual mineralized rocks of the New Idria area and has been documented replacing or occurring alongside minerals such as jadeite and analcime.
