Tarbuttite Crystals
Broken Hill (Kabwe), Zambia- Type Locality
Dimensions: 4.8 x 3.0 x 3.0 cm

This is a particularly attractive little old-collection piece. Numerous colorless glassy tarbuttite crystals cover pockets and ridges of a dark brown, strongly weathered matrix. The crystals are surprisingly abundant, forming sparkling drusy aggregates with scattered larger individuals showing distinct faces and good transparency.

The contrast between the bright crystals and earthy host gives the specimen considerably more visual presence than its size suggests. Tarbuttite is a comparatively uncommon zinc phosphate mineral, and Kabwe/Broken Hill is its type locality, making old examples from this deposit especially meaningful to systematic and locality collectors.
