An old North Carolina Monazite specimen dominated by a substantial reddish-brown to dark brown crystal mass with broad, blocky faces and areas of darker nearly black mineralization. The specimen shows a somewhat weathered exterior with rusty ochre alteration, while exposed surfaces retain a resinous to submetallic luster. A particularly interesting example from an obscure and seldom-seen North Carolina rare-earth locality.
