Tremolite- St. Lawrence County, New York

Tremolite- St. Lawrence County, New York

Tremolite
St. Lawrence County, New York
Dimensions: 5.6 x 2.9 x 2.0 cm

A substantial specimen of Tremolite from St. Lawrence County, New York, showcasing pale gray and cream coloration with a soft pearly to silky luster. The specimen has thick, intergrown bladed-to-prismatic tremolite crystals, with broad cleavage surfaces revealing the mineral's characteristic internal structure.

St. Lawrence County is one of the classic American localities for tremolite, where the mineral occurs in metamorphosed carbonate rocks and calc-silicate assemblages. Tremolite from the region ranges from pale massive and fibrous material to exceptionally well-developed green crystals. The area is sufficiently important that both the USGS and New York State Museum maintain documented St. Lawrence County tremolite material.
