Tourmaline (Green) in Quartz
Brazil
Dimensions: 3.8 × 3.2 × 2.2 cm
Provenance: Original vintage collection label, catalog no. 232, included with specimen.
A striking specimen featuring several deep forest-green Tourmaline crystals embedded in a translucent, milky-white Quartz matrix. The elongated, prismatic crystals display prominent lengthwise striations and rich green coloration, with areas of translucency that become especially apparent under direct lighting. The largest crystal rises diagonally across the specimen, accompanied by smaller intersecting crystals and fragments that create a visually dynamic arrangement. The contrast between the dark green Tourmaline and pale Quartz beautifully highlights the crystals' distinctive form and natural growth.
Green Tourmaline, commonly belonging to the elbaite species, is prized for its remarkable range of green hues and distinctive trigonal crystal structure. Tourmaline frequently occurs in granitic pegmatites, where mineral-rich fluids allow crystals to develop alongside Quartz and other pegmatite minerals. Brazil is particularly renowned for its tourmaline-bearing pegmatites and has produced many notable specimens for mineral collections worldwide.
