Pale green willemite is scattered throughout a bright carbonate matrix alongside an unusually dense population of black franklinite grains, producing a strongly contrasting, granular surface.
Franklin is famous for its exceptionally complex zinc-manganese-iron mineralization and extraordinary mineral diversity. Willemite and franklinite are two of its signature species, making their association particularly representative of the locality and desirable in a historic mineral collection.
