A substantial Actinolite specimen composed of dense, intergrown bladed crystals ranging from silvery gray-green to deeper forest green. The crystals display pronounced longitudinal striations and a bright silky to vitreous luster, with overlapping and radiating aggregates creating a highly textured surface. Translucent to milky Quartz occurs prominently along one side and through portions of the matrix, contrasting nicely with the darker green Actinolite.
Actinolite is a calcium-magnesium-iron amphibole that commonly forms during metamorphism and may develop as elongated blades, needles, or fibrous aggregates. Grizzly Ridge in Plumas County is a documented occurrence of Actinolite with Quartz, including green and white Actinolite specimens associated with Quartz.
