A highly aesthetic white Pectolite specimen featuring sweeping, radiating sprays of elongated bladed to acicular crystals on a dark gray matrix. The intersecting crystal fans create sharp, angular forms with pronounced silky to pearly luster, producing flashes of silvery iridescence as the specimen is turned. The strong contrast between the brilliant white Pectolite and dark matrix makes this an especially attractive example.
Pectolite is a sodium-calcium silicate known for its distinctive radiating and fibrous crystal habits. California hosts numerous Pectolite occurrences, particularly in altered mafic and ultramafic rocks, where the mineral may develop as veins and radiating aggregates. There are documented California occurrences in San Benito, Colusa, Mendocino, Sonoma, Inyo and several other counties.
