This specimen's surface is packed with rounded, pea-like pisolites, ranging from tiny grains to much larger nodules, set within a pale cream to reddish-brown matrix. That texture is one of the classic identifying features of bauxite. Bauxite is actually a rock rather than a single mineral, composed primarily of aluminum-bearing minerals such as boehmite, gibbsite and/or diaspore, commonly accompanied by iron oxides and clay minerals.
The locality makes this one particularly interesting. Historic USGS documentation describes numerous bauxite deposits around Barcelona and elsewhere in northeastern Spain, with the regional material commonly being pisolitic and boehmite-rich, with associated diaspore, kaolinite and hematite.
