Prehnite
Imilchil, Midelt Province, Drâa-Tafilalet Region, Morocco
Dimensions: 5.2 × 3.2 × 3.4 cm
An intricate Prehnite specimen featuring an abundant arrangement of creamy white to pale ivory crystals with a delicate, pearly to vitreous luster. The crystals form overlapping, stepped aggregates of flattened, tabular blades, creating a striking architectural appearance. Fine parallel striations and translucent crystal edges catch the light beautifully, while subtle golden-yellow iron staining adds warmth and definition between the individual formations. The specimen tapers toward a narrower base, giving the dense crystalline display a naturally sculptural silhouette.
Prehnite is a calcium aluminum silicate mineral commonly found in hydrothermal environments and altered volcanic rocks. Although often recognized for its rounded, botryoidal formations, Prehnite can also develop distinct tabular and bladed crystal habits. This Moroccan specimen showcases an especially interesting expression of layered crystal growth, highlighting the mineral's diversity of natural formations.
