Pyrite
Huanzala Mine, Huanzala, Huallanca District, Bolognesi Province, Ancash, Peru
Dimensions: 7.4 x 6.5 x 5.4 cm
A spectacular Pyrite specimen composed almost entirely of densely intergrown metallic crystals. Hundreds of brilliant brassy-gold Pyrite crystals grown across the specimen in a dramatic, three-dimensional formation, creating an exceptionally rich crystalline surface that sparkles intensely beneath the light.
The crystals displays pronounced parallel growth striations across their faces. These striations are a natural crystallographic feature of Pyrite produced by oscillating growth between cubic and pyritohedral forms, and are particularly well represented in Pyrite from Huanzala.
The Huanzala Mine is one of the world's classic Pyrite localities, renowned among mineral collectors for producing exceptionally lustrous crystals with complex crystallography and sharply defined growth patterns. Documented specimens from the mine range from sharply striated cubes to rich pyritohedral and highly modified crystal aggregates.
