Metatorbernite
Castle Dome, Miami, Arizona
Dimensions: 4.8 x 4.5 x 2.7 cm
Scattered across the weathered, quartz-bearing matrix are tiny bright green metatorbernite crystals, their vivid color standing out sharply against the muted tan-gray host rock. The mineralization is small-scale, but quite visible in the photographs and distributed over a good portion of the display face.
Metatorbernite is a hydrated copper uranyl phosphate and commonly occurs as a secondary mineral in the oxidized portions of uranium-bearing deposits.
Vintage collection specimen, accompanied by its original catalog label, No. 339, identifying it as Metatorbernite — Castle Dome, Miami, Arizona.
