Black Schorl Tourmaline forms prominent elongated crystals throughout a highly lustrous matrix of colorless to smoky Quartz. The Tourmaline displays strong vertical striations and a deep black luster, with several larger crystals prominently exposed across the specimen and numerous slender crystals extending through the surrounding Quartz.
Schorl is the iron-rich and most common member of the Tourmaline group. It frequently occurs in granitic pegmatites alongside Quartz and other pegmatite minerals, with Brazil producing particularly attractive examples of this classic mineral association.
